Association, Midwest Comic BookFirst order of business: All of us, the volunteers of the Midwest Comic Book Association, want to thank each and every one of the artists who have supported us over the past 20 years and into the future. They generously give of their time and talents, and help to make our MicroCon and FallCon shows the highlights of every year for comic lovers in the upper Midwest. We understand and appreciate that when you artists come to a convention, you are taking time away from your deadlines, your families, and friends. As artists, you are really the showpieces of any convention. Being a center of attention for thousands of fans takes a lot of energy, patience, and hard work. We just wanted you to know that we understand that, we appreciate your willingness to take that role on, and we will always do what we can to make our shows as fun for you, as well as the fans, as we can. Thank you all. Second order of business: Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, comic book fans and lovers (Yes, I’m talking directly to YOU...so, let’s FOCUS here people...), you are invited to a birthday. But this ain’t just any birthday, oh no...It’s OUR birthday. The MCBA is 20 years old this year. So, I guess that means we’ll just have to have a party, doesn’t it? Doesn’t it?? Say, “YES,” blast you!!! Good! Now (yes, RIGHT NOW!) make whatever arrangements you need to assure that you’ll be in Saint Paul, Minnesota on October 4th and 5th...because it’s going to be nuts. How nuts? Well, we’ve rented the Grandstand of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. That’s THREE TIMES the size of our normal venue. That means more artists, more dealers, more of everything. And, yes, more of “everything” means more original art being auctioned off at our charity auction. I’ll give you all a little wink, wink – nudge, nudge, the auction by itself is more than enough reason to be there. This is going to be an absolute bash, so make your plans to come and join us. Third order of business: We’ve had a few sketch cards made up for the 20th and been asking artists if they’d work their own unique brands of magic with them. Now, before you all go bananas, 1) Not all of the artists that have done cards for us will necessarily be at the FallCon show. Check our website www.mncba.com for the guest list but check it more than once because we’re still trying to get more artists. 2) What will happen with these cards? Well, some of these cards will be auctioned off at our charity art auction and some will be given away. Not to be nasty, but don’t even bother emailing us trying to cherry pick the best ones for yourself...it ain’t gonna happen. If you want a shot at some of these cards, you’d better be at FallCon. Finally, as you’re looking through this gallery, do yourself a favor and check out some of the names you may not recognize. We think you’ll find some really cool stuff going on that you never knew was out there. We’ve listed the artist’s website in their gallery room. (Artists – If there are any errors, we apologize. Just email us and we’ll correct them.) I believe that the literary giant, Bizarro, would phrase it succinctly and justly by saying, “Comics Am Good!!!” FallCon XX – October 4-5th, 2008 Grandstand on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds 1265 Snelling Avenue North Saint Paul, Minnesota 20 years of putting the ‘EEK’ in GEEK. Be there. Featured Pieces
