BISSETTE SKETCHES & ART FOR SALE! They walk, they talk, they crawl on their bellies like reptiles! (Well, some of them ARE reptiles...) Welcome to the new Sketch Gallery of Stephen R. Bissette (SWAMP THING, TABOO, TYRANT, 1963, etc.)! I'll be posting new sketches for sale here on a regular basis -- watch for them! Sold sketches and art will be moved to the 'Sold Art Gallery' upon finding new homes -- all OTHER art posted IS FOR SALE. I do not accept commissions; in fact, I still owe three sketches/paintings to folks from years ago (whittling those down from over 50 owed), so please, don't ask. I do, however, regularly sketch for my own pleasure, and those sketches are posted here. I debut all new sketches at my website/blog (see below) at the rate of at least two per week. After a few days on Myrant, the unsold sketches will be made available here -- completed, ready to be personalized if you wish, and ready to ship. Please note: I require Signature Confirmation with all mailings of art in the US; as of June 2009, $7.30 is the standard shipping fee (Priority Mail with Signature Confirmation) for all but oversized sketches. There will also occasionally be vintage original art available here from my collection. I do not, however, sell any SWAMP THING or TYRANT originals. Again, please, do not ask. If this policy changes, the pages will likely be made available here. I've been retired from the American mainstream comics industry since December 1999. During my time in comics, I won many industry awards as cartoonist, writer, editor and publisher. A pioneer graduate of the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art, I currently teach at the Center for Cartoon Studies. Though I've kept plenty busy over the years, I remain best known for my work on Saga of the Swamp Thing, Taboo (from which FROM HELL and LOST GIRLS came), '1963,' Tyrant, co-creating John Constantine (inspiring the film CONSTANTINE), and creating the world's second '24- Hour Comic,' invented by Scott McCloud as a challenge for yours truly. Invisible to most of comic fandom, I've illustrated numerous books (a book a year since 1989) and have authored fiction (including the Stoker Award-winning novella Aliens: Tribes and the story “Copper” in The New Dead, St. Martin’s Press, 2010) and non-fiction (co-authoring Comic Book Rebels, The Monster Book: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and solo articles/essays for books and magazines). My papers reside in HUIE Library’s Special Collections, Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas. I recently co-authored The Prince of Stories: The Many Worlds of Neil Gaiman (St. Martin’s Press, 2008), did the cover art and illustrations (over 80!) for The Vermont Monster Guide (University Press of New England, October 2009) -- chosen as one of the Top Ten Cryptozoology Books of 2009! -- and my collaborative work on Swamp Thing was recently reprinted in a DC/Vertigo hardcover edition that placed on the New York Times Graphic Books Best Seller list in April, 2009.
