Growing up reading comics I was always drawn to and intrigued by Ghost Rider because of his dramatic appearance and because of his motorcycle. I grew up when Evil Knievel was one of the world's biggest stars and Ghost Rider just reminded me of him. Alas, I came onto the comics scene after the Johnny Blaze series ended so my exposure to Ghost Ridr didn't come until 1990 and one of the most popular series of the 90's in the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider. I was hooked instantly. The character was great and the stories were very well written and mapped out with truly superb art. Javier Saltares may be the finest artist to illustrate Ghost Rider and the title also had Mark Teixiera on art as well. What a duo! It was a visually stunning series that really reinvigorated the "horror" angle of Marvel Universe and would lead into Midnight Sons and series such as Nightstalkers, Morbius, and Spirits Of Vengeance.

This cover is just a wonderful example of Saltares tremendous ability to convey action and motion in a very dynamic way. It's also a great battle cover with another of the old Silver Age adversaries - mainly of Thor - in the "maniacal" Mr. Hyde. A fierce battle high above the street. This was still a time in comics production where the cover showed story elements from the interior and the covers weren't simply icon shots of the heroes. It also served as a hook or a draw which was an old mandate of just about every comic book editor since Stan was a pup - the cover has to grab your attention and make you want to buy the book. With a flaming skull and flaming wheeled motorcycle exploding from a building floating high above the pavement as a supervillain hangs suspended in time forever about to pummel Ghost Rider, I'd say it caught my attention and left an indelible impression. It was a fantastic series and one of the biggest selling of the 1990's and the artwork is hard to come by. I have only ever seen a couple of other covers from the Saltares/Tex era. Privilged to own one of the finest Ghost Rider covers the great Javier Saltares ever created.

I can remember back when this book and this character was the hottest thing in comics. I'm sure I still have a huge stack of those 1st issue glow in the dark covers somewhere in storage that I probably couldn't GIVE away now. I was probably more of a Tex fan than I was of Javi, but seeing this cover in b&w may prompt me to go back and take a second look at these issues. Really gorgeous linework by Saltares here. And yes, this is a cover that would definitely grab your attention! Congrats!

The "new" Ghost Rider was so cinematic--made such a big impression on me back then. This cover captures that quality perfectly--big congrats!

I love your comment as it rings so true regarding the covers back then being a glimpse to the story inside rather than a superficial pose like you would see on a Vogue mag. Spot on thought and yet another wonderful cover from so many of our childhoods.

Jason, this is a stellar Ghost Rider cover - a 1990s masterpiece! Ghost Rider on his bike vs Mr Hyde, drawn and inked by Javier Saltares, an incredible artist, who defined Ghost Rider in the 1990s. What else do you have to say! Story: this cover was one of the first pieces of art I ever purchased and it was always one of my favorite covers in my collection. I purchased it back in the March 16, 2002 Heritage auction, which was my first Heritage auction. It has been in my possession ever since; I’m glad you are the proud and “worthy” caretaker now – enjoy it my friend.
