Description

Spider-Man was my first comic book love, but when my mother drove me 90 miles round trip to purchase the Wrightson Amazing Spider-Man Hooky graphic novel, I also purchased my very first Batman comic... a 5th printing soft cover copy of Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns.” I found it on the same wire rack that housed my copy of Hooky, and it began a torrid love affair with all things BAT related. Now, while I'd love to have a page from that Bat book, barring winning the lotto, I just can't play in that deep end of the comic art collecting pool; but Breyfogle's art was a huge part of my Batman collecting days, so it's only fitting that I add a Batman piece to my collection by him!

From Norm's Wikipedia page:

"Batman

Teamed with writer Alan Grant, Breyfogle worked on Detective Comics. They introduced the Ventriloquist in their first Batman story together[6] and the Ratcatcher in their third.[7] He drew the Batman for six years (1987–1993), penciling Detective Comics from 1987–1990, then moving to Batman to introduce the new Robin[8] from 1990–1992, and finally starting a new Batman series for DC titled Batman: Shadow of the Bat from 1992-1993[9] which saw the Grant/Breyfogle team create three new characters, Jeremiah Arkham, Mr. Zsasz,[10] and Amygdala. During his six-year run on the Batman character, he drew a few one-shots, two of them being Batman: Holy Terror, the first DC comic book to feature the Elseworlds logo,[11] and Batman: Birth of the Demon,[12] which he hand painted. He provided pencils to a 10-page short story in Superman 80-Page Giant #1 (Feb. 1999)."

With the exception of the Superman 80-Page Giant, I read each and every one of Breyfogle's Batman books! He was such an integral part of my love for the character that it seems fitting that my only Batman piece in my entire collection (after collecting for over 13 years now) is by none other than Norm Breyfogle!

I love this Shadow of the Bat promo art with Norm's telltale silhouetted Batman as a background element, and the great supporting cast of characters that the Shadow book brought to the forefront, Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon, Robin (Tim Drake), Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Ace the Bat-Hound, Harold Allnut, and Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon!

A large portion of the cityscape is a stat.

Thanks to PA for a quick and painless transaction, and helping me to finally adding a fitting Batman piece to my collection!

Really dig the design of this. Sucks the background is mostly stat, but still looks so cool. Norm did some great work on Batman. Glad you got such a killer piece for your collection.

Norm Breyfogle drew the cover for the first comic I'd bought by myself and also drew the first page of original art in my humble collection, I never tire seeing his expressive and energetic artwork ! Awesome piece !
