Description

Great mock cover for an issue of Speed.

Speed and Melon Master were warped versions of Flash and Mirror Master that appeared in Jeff's Superhero Overdose and Ultra Klutz material. Ultra Klutz #21 was the full length issue with Speed, which also happened to be my introduction to the series.

Speed was a police scientist / drug addict that got his powers when lightning hit a number of drugs which he absorbed in the blast. Melon Master has a number of melon based weapons.

In this issue, done in the style of 1960's DC covers- Melon Master is able to create imperfect duplicates of himself (notice the two left hands on the Melon Master at far right) to try to overwhelm Speed. Can Speed uncover the secret and stop the real Melon Master? Or will he pass out drunk before that happens?

Ultra Klutz #20 had a three page origin of Speed, and Ultra Klutz #21 was the issue dedicated to Speed vs the rogues gallery. You can probably find each for a buck or so plus shipping on ebay.

Yes, since you mentioned it on this post I've been looking into it on eBay -- I'm in Canada though, so I think I'll have to get an American friend to buy it and send to me because the shipping costs sellers charge to Canada are ridiculous. I'm a huge Rogues fan but had no idea that these comics existed, so thank you for the education!
