This iconic cover had resided in the Forbes Collection for the last 19 years. I would like to thank Kip Forbes for parting with this amazing cover.

Awarded to Don Thompson in 1961 for his fan letter praising this landmark issue. Last transacted in the pre-historic days of 1991 when it broke the record for the most expensive piece of comic art ever sold.

Flash #123 is certainly the most important 60's DC comic and a true milestone in comic history with the creation of Earth II and the merging of the Golden Age and the Silver Age.

The holy grail.

It is almost funny to see someone who has a collection like yours use the word "grail," but the historical significance of this piece (and indeed of a significant number of the pieces in your collection) is undeniable. I think that your collection is getting to, or has been at, the point where you should seriously consider approaching museums of note (MOMA, etc.) to host temporary exhibitions of your collections. Such exhibitions could increase exposure of our little hobby and introduce this wonderful art to a great number of people in the world who likely do not even know it exists. Think about it. In the meantime, enjoy your pretty pictures. They are spectacular beyond words.

Carmine Infantino will always be the definitive artist of the Flash for me. This cover bridged the generation of Flashes and essentially had the Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick pass the torch to the Silver Age Flash Barry Allen. I was forntunate to view this cover in person many moons ago and am ecstatic to see it finally make it's way here to CAF. An outstanding addition to your already museum quality collection. Cheers! N.

One of the reasons this cover is considered a classic is the design. Everything about it is compelling, even the dialogue, but the central image of the wall is simply brilliant.

It's okay, if you like historic, monumental and significant covers. =) Seriously,! What do the covered word bubbles next to Barry say? Seeing an image of the original is a real treat, you get to see the slight changes and tweeks that weren't seen in the published version.

John Coates wrote:     [ Quote & Reply ] To have an early 1960s DC cover survive the shredder is one thing, but for that cover to *also* be from a seminal issue ( “Highly original and influencing the development of future events: a seminal artist; seminal ideas”) is impressive to say the least!! I seem to remember in a lettercol from the 1960s where the issue editor mentioned that this cover was either given away in a contest to a reader, or given away to a kid that visited the office. Even more impressive if that’s true; could be wrong about the lettercol memory, though JC

Holy sh#t, Stephen, what an incredible and historic piece to add to your already amazing collection. I would have to agree with just about every comment already make about this piece, espicially with what Artemaria wrote. This piece definitely deserves to be viewed in museums.

When I first saw this I couldn't believe that it was real ! Several folks mentioned that it is amazing that this cover survived, well there was no luck involved. Don Thompson was a man with incredible knowledge and insight into this hobby that we love. That fact that he would receive , and care for this historic cover is as much a contribution to our hobby as his publication, Comics Buyers Guide.

This is 1 of 2 iconic Flash covers, the other being the Showcase cover featuring Barry. I am sure you smile each day when you see this. I am curious, and I don't know if this topic is taboo in comic art collecting, but have you had it restored? I am almost curious to see how these works of art would appear if the word balloons and lettering were cleaned up.
