Description

I am often intrigued by the fact that there are unused covers out there, and wonder why one was chosen over another. I'd think that roughs would be sent to editors who chose an image and that was the final cover. Apparently not. This is an unused cover for Lois Lane 87 (October 1968). The one that was used is pretty simple and shows Lois (with super-powers) fighting Cor-Lar in the sky above the Fortress of Solitude. This one has a bit more detail and has them fighting inside the fortress. The "cat-fight" imagery, complete with hair-pulling, is present in both images. When I showed this to ol' pal Mike Wieringo, he pointed out that the shadows went all over in this image and could not have come from one light source. Maybe that is why the other image was selected... as it has no shadows anywhere even though the sun was obviously above them. Another interesting DC cover from 1968 with interesting artistic choices.
