I first learned of Ernie on the original Amethyst mini-series I've wanted to commission him for a long time and he's still quite active. He recently completed the official graphic adaptation of the 911 report and the new, authorized, biography of Anne Frank.

Sadly, he didn't seem interested in commissions.

Then, one day, Joe Rubinstein posted to the Yahoo comicart-l mailing list that he would broker a joint cover recreation with Ernie for anyone interested. I jumped on it.

I scanned the Amethyst covers and chose number 12. I'm sure that Joe and Ernie were expecting a nice simple Richie Rich cover (and I was tempted), but the chance for Amethyst was too good to pass up.

Joe inked Ernie's pencils directly.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Feel free to leave comments.

Wow! I'd say that's a BIT more intricate than a Richie Rich...But far more rewarding (IMHO)! Delightfully decorative. Congrats, Alex!
