Comic Art Archive: Watchmen
Issue: 9   Page: 20

Possibly Watchmen is one of comics that i have more reread, and i am almost always finding some new references that i had been overlooked. Because Watchmen is written with the precision of a Swiss Watch, where Alan Moore writes in different levels, and in each level the text is also reflected. In the issue 9, for example, Moore is announcing us from the first page who is the father of Julie, using metaphors such as the image of perfume of Julie, the crystal ball which looked at when she was little, the Crystal City that builds Jon on Mars, everything collapses at the end when Julie finds out who is her father, as a part of her innocence is destroyed when knowing the crude truth, that her father is Edward Blake, The Comedian. If we had to sum up Watchmen in one sentence (something quite difficult that the interesting book of Rafael Marín, W of Watchmen revealed to me ) it would be that the basic idea is the isolation, the characters only communicate and solve their problems in the presence of a tragic event. About Dave Gibbons i will only repeat what Moore says:

"That Dave was the artist of Watchmen was totally determining in how Watchmen was written, because Dave has an approach of the things extremely precise, which means that you can introduce layer after layer of precise details at heart of the frame, and that you can handle different surroundings. Dave has that incredible sense of the physical reality that it was precise for Watchmen, and i wrote it like i wrote it because i knew that Dave could draw it."

Thanks Bernard but this prelim is not mine, this image is from the book Watching the Watchmen. I recommend this book is really interesting, but it is in Spanish.
