San Francisco, CA: The Cartoon Art Museum’s yearly Boot Camps have now grown into a brand new half-day summer Cartoon Camp! Tween and teen students are invited to take part in weeklong workshops dedicated to the comic book creation process from start to a finished project.

This year’s Cartoon Camp will be held on site at the American Bookbinders Museum on 355 Clementina Street in San Francisco, CA while the Cartoon Art Museum continues renovations for its new location in Fisherman’s Wharf.

Cartoon Camp also has scholarship funding available sponsored by the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District, a nonprofit organization working every day to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. The link to apply for scholarship funding can be found on the direct registration link on Guestlist: http://guestli.st/454494

Three sessions will be held from June to August 2017:

Each week will provide a new twist on learning cartooning basics, from designing and developing a cast of cartoon characters, to developing, writing and drawing a complete comic story to making physical mini-comics. Campers can attend any week alone or build up their skills in new ways over multiple weeks.

All camp sessions will be taught by cartoonist and illustrator Ellis Kim (TimeFiddler.com).

Supplies: Required Materials will be provided. Students are welcome to bring in their personal sketchbooks and materials to add to their learning experience.

These are intermediate courses recommended for students from 10-15 years old. Students under the age of 10 or over the age of 15 will not be admitted into the class. Each session is also limited to 15 students each to allow for more in depth work and dialog with one of our working cartoonist teachers.

If a child has a special need or needs the parent or guardian can inform the Cartoon Art Museum along with their Registration so that we can better serve the child. Also, parents are not generally admitted into these classes without special need. We recommend inquiring about our private classes to attend class with your child.

Each session meets four hours each day for a 5-day week, Monday through Friday at the American Bookbinders Museum in SOMA at 355 Clementina Street.

The attendance fee for each student is $300 for non-members and $250 for members and is collected through the online registration payment*. The attendance fee covers the cost of art supplies and staff.

Up to 5 underserved students per week may attend free of charge thanks to a grant from YBCBD's Yerba Buena Community Benefit Fund. See below for more information. ***
