Dear Comic Art Fan,

Last month writer Peter David suffered a debilitating stroke while vactioning with his family. His friend and Fallen Angel artist J.K. Woodward has started up a benefit art auction featuring characters that David has created or worked on such as the Hulk, X-Factor, Supergirl, Young Justice, and more. Artists including Pablo Raimondi, Jamal Igle, Joe Corroney, Valentine De Landro, and more have contributed pieces already. The auction is set to run mid-February. If you would like to contribute art or make a direct donation, more information can be found at the link.

See you next week!

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Brant Boersma, I am a culture coach for a privately owned coffee company called Dutch Bros. Coffee.  I was introduced to comics by my cousin when I was eight years old and have been in awe ever since. I'm 31, have been married for nearly 11 years and have three amazing daughters ages nine, five, and two.

2.  Which piece in your gallery is your favorite?

My framed Walking Dead #46 cover is by far my favorite piece I own. Tyreese was my favorite character in the series and so this piece definitely has some sentimental value both as a reader and lover of the comic and as a symbol of enjoying the things I love in this life. It has opened my mind to the original comic art world and I'm excited to be a part of it.

3.  How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

I've been collecting for about 3 and a half years now. When my Dad got sick with ALS I decided life was too short so I decided to get more involved in the things I love the most in this life, so I began to purchase the art to my favorite comic. This cover was my first original art and it arrived days after my Dad passed.  It really is a prized possession of mine and I look forward to adding more to my collection.

4.  How do you display/store your collection at home?

I currently have a few pieces framed and am in the process of building a comic book room in my new home. We're currently framing the house but hope to be moved in by late summer. Any suggestions or advice is gladly accepted.

5.  What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

Top 5 most wanted pieces would be
1.  The cover to Uncanny X-Men #250 - this was the first comic I ever read, and I still have the issue to this day, this is my dream piece!
2.  Batman #614 pg 5 - the Hush storyline Splash Page where Batman is choking out Joker- by far my favorite Batman art ever, Jim Lee is a legend!
3.  Any of the covers from the Civil War from Marvel. I had the honor of meeting Michael Turner at San Diego Comic Con one year, and not only was he a wizard with his art, but he was a genuinely nice dude. The comic world is not the same without him.
4.  I would love a commission from Arthur Adams, it seems like I can never get a commission from that guy. I love his Wolverine.
5.  Last but not least I would love to add the cover to The Walking Dead #7 to my little collection. It is Tyreese’s first appearance and done by the amazing Tony Moore, so here’s to hoping that the Nowell Brothers will someday want to trade that bad boy and make a young man’s dream come true! If you guys read this, please let me know if you want to work something out!
