Dear Comic Art Fan,

This past weekend the comic industry lost another pioneer with the passing of Wee Pals creator Morrie Turner. Mr. Turner held the distinction of being the first African-American cartoonist with a nationally syndicated newspaper strip. Wee Pals featured a multicultural cast and carried a message of friendship and tolerance for others. On behalf of the CAF community we offer our condolences to his family and friends. Read his NY Times obituary at the link...

See you next week.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

I am a Yoga/T'ai-Chi/Kung-Fu practitioner and teacher.  I am married to a wonderful gal and have an amazing daughter.  I have been a comic art fan and collector since the early 80s.  My fave artists are Jim Starlin, John Byrne, and Michael Golden to name a few. I have a small but interesting collection and would have more if I had more cash.

2. Which piece in your gallery is your favorite?

My Favorite piece on display is my Warlock #9 Splash featuring The Magus, Warlock, Gamora, and Pip.  It is the first page to my favorite comic and is my Starlin Grail starring my fave comic creation, THE MAGUS!  I love the original Lettering of the INFINITY EFFECT which was designed by Jim Starlin, Steve Leialoha, and Tom Orzechowski.

3. How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

I have been collecting original art for 30 years.  My girlfriend at the time knew a comic art collector and bought me a vintage John Byrne ballpoint pen head sketch of Storm.  That prompted my collecting and the first pieces I acquired were pages from Cerebus bought directly form Dave Sim’s assistant over the phone.

4. How do you display/store your collection at home?

I display my most beloved pieces by having them professionally framed and hanging them where I can see and enjoy them every day.

5. What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

My top five most wanted original pages or commissions are as follows:

Dave Cockrum - X-Men Ad Art

Jim Starlin - Warlock #13 Cover

Michael Golden - Avengers vs. Sub-Mariner Pin-Up

Keith Giffen/Al Gordon - Legion of Super-Heroes #4 Cover

Kevin Nowlan - Superman: Man of Steel Gallery Cover
