Dear Comic Art Fan,

Sad news with yesterday's passing of cartoonist Jack Davis, a giant in the industry of comics and illustration. His career began while attending the University of Georgia on the G.I. Bill and he drew cartoons for the school paper, and later contributed many illustrations for the school's football team throughout his life. One of the last surviving members of the EC Comics bullpen, Davis found success drawing titles including Tales of the Crypt, Haunt of Fear, Two-Fisted Tales, and more. But Davis was most famous for his movie posters and TV Guide caricatures of celebrities. Well-respected by his contemporaries and beloved by those artists influenced by his work, Davis won virtually every award in the industry. He was an icon who will be truly missed. Click here to see Jack Davis art exhibited on CAF...

To compound the sadness, Richard Thompson, creator of the newspaper comic strip Cul de Sac, also passed away yesterday following a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. His work garnered praise from fellow cartoonists such as Bill Watterson, Garry Trudeau, Pat Oliphant, and Pixar director Pete Docter who tapped Thompson to work on Inside Out. Read his Washington Post obituary here...

CAF extends our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of both artists on behlaf of our community.

See you next week.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, I'm 50 years old, I'm lucky to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world: Italy, and near one of the world's most beautiful cities: Rome. I have a beautiful family with four children and a great passion for cartoons.

2. Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?

I am lazy and I have not posted my entire collection on CAF yet (but I promised myself I will do it soon). Among the pieces published my favorites are the Elektra by Bill Sienkiewicz and Glenn Fabry cover for Greatest Hits #4 (a really pop piece).

3. How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

The comics have always accompanied me in my life and I have always been attracted to visual arts. Thanks to my firstborn, a comic book collector, I discovered that the two things could come together. It happened about ten years ago and since then my passion for comic art has never left me indeed it has increasingly grown and matured with time.

4. How do you display/store your collection at home?

The pages are kept in special containers and are browsed whenever a dose of joy and amazement is needed.

5. What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

  1. M by Jon. J. Muth
  2. Le avventure di Pentothal by Pazienza
  3. Love and War by Bill Sienkiewicz
  4. Arkham Asylum by Dave McKean
  5. Silver Surfer by John Buscema

I will take this opportunity to launch an appeal to those who want to sell them, I'm here!
