Another fine example of why the Mignola/PCR combo was one of the classic collaborations (and one of my personal favorites) from the late 80's. Next to Mike inking himself during this period, I loved the way Craig embellished Mike's pencils. Thanks yet again to Mitch for this great piece!

I agree with your assessment. PCR is the only inker, other than Mike himself, that can do his pencils justice. Just great, clean line art. Another beautiful piece. Cheers ! Nelson.

Wow, I guess this month is the "feature Mignola month!" Anyhow, I had to comment, and I gotta say that this is a really nice example of a penciller and inker collaboration where the two bring something different to the table and turn out something that either wouldn't have accomplished alone. While I like Mignola's own inking in this period, this is different and appealing, a very nice collaboration with Russell. Anyhow, take it easy dude... :)

Thanks Nelson and Mark! I'm sure there are a lot of people who would agree with both of you, including Mr. Mignola himself. I still remember the first time I went to Mike's apartment (when he was still a young local artist) and he showed me his prize possession at the time, which was an Alpha Flight cover that was inked by Russell. He told me that if there was one person he could have ink him for the rest of his career, it would be PCR. Now that's what I call a vote of confidence!

Wow, another beautiful piece. PCR is indeed a wonderful inker for Mignola's pencils, though I think Mike inks his own work best. PCR isn't far off the mark (see: Gotham by Gaslight). I will say that Al Williamson did a great job on Mignola's pencils on the Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser book. In any event, this piece is gorgeous!

I don't recall seeing this beautiful pin-up before but it's a fabulous teaming of two wonderful talents - congrats Eric!

I loved inking this very early Mignola story. He hadn't yet evolved into his distinctive mature style but he nailed that sort of early 20th century illustrated storybook style which was just right for this particular swashbuckling story. This was one of his very first published stories if I recall.

Wow! Thanks Craig! I feel so honored to have you post in my gallery. So glad you have fond memories of this piece and this story. Hopefully you also saw the Phantom Stranger cover I got from you on ebay about ten years ago and of course the two classic pieces I have in my Russell Gallery! I am very proud to have been the long time owner of all of these pieces and in most cases, only the first or second owner. The pieces are among my treasured favorites!
