Q&A with Alex K.

Q: Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?
A: I have many favorites, but if I could only pick one it would be my Death Dealer Double Doodle by the master, Frank Frazetta. I'm a huge Frazetta fan and I never imagined I would own any originals by the master, little less 2 Death Dealers!

Q: Please tell us a little about yourself.
A: I work in the Computer Graphics industry, and am a digital artist of sorts. However, my inspiration has always been analog art, which leads to how I got into original art collecting...

Q: How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?
A: I've been collecting for about 15 years now. It all started when we bought our first house and I wanted to decorate my den. I have always been a Frazetta fan as well as a big Lord of the Rings fan, so my first purchase for my home office was Frank Frazetta's Lord of the Rings portfolio prints (which still hang in my office). However, once I put them up, I realized I still had more free wallspace to fill. (Man! I wish that were still true! ;) ) So, I was looked around on the internet and found someone selling an early original Simon Bisley ink drawing of Deadlock (from ABC Warriors). Simon's art was always a comic book favorite of mine and the price wasn't too different than what I had paid for the portfolio prints (mind you, this was 15+ years ago!), so I bought it and when it arrived, I couldn't take my eyes off it! As anyone who collects original art knows, once you see that first original up close, you can never go back.

Q: How do you display/store your collection at home?
A: I try to display as much of it as I can on the walls in my office, and those that don't make it framed on walls, I temporarily display on a couple of easels, until I switch them out. Everything else is stored in Itoya portfolios.

Q: What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?
A: It would be easier to just name my top 5 favorite artists: Frank Frazetta, Simon "The Biz" Bisley, Alfonso Azpiri, Robert Gould, and Wayne Reynolds.
