Description
SOLD JULY 2017 FOR $259!

11x17" thin artboard has pen and ink w/inkwash original art by Michael Golden. Art is for page 13 of "Howard The Duck" #1, which was published by Marvel in magazine format Oct. 1979. Three panel page features Howard and Beverly being led into "The Coop," secret headquarters of the nefarious Mr. Chicken. "The Coop" is revealed as a industrialized chicken coop, where birds are treated w/special food and steam treatments to maximize their size and egg production. Inked/stamped title/issue number at top margin is incorrect, as the first "Howard The Duck" comic series ended May 1979. This art was going to be featured in the following comic issue, but was repurposed for the magazine as the comic series ended. An issue #32 was published when the series was revived in 1986 and does not feature this art. Back of artboard has stamped "Howard The Duck" title w/handwritten issue/page number and 1979 Marvel copyright stamp. Artboard has two staple holes at top left, but art remains clean and Exc.

I believe someone transposed the numbers on the top. This is NOT Paul Smith. This is NOT from issue 32 of the Howard The Duck comic book. Ink wash pages like this were only in the Howard The Duck Magazine, a black & white magazine-sized publication. This is most likely page 32 of Howard The Duck Magazine issue 9. There were multiple stories in that issue, hence why it also says 'Page 13" at the bottom of the page.

We appreciate the insight, Ken. We are still in the process of vetting the catalog data from which I pull these descriptions. It seems that some of the Howard pieces were mislabled by the consignor, but you are absolutely correct. This art is clearly from the late 70s or early 80s (not 1986) and we are working to verify right now. We believe it's Golden from Mag #1 but haven't finished the research. Thanks again!

Hi Ken, we have now updated our information to what we feel is accurate.

Glad to see it! Thanks for listening. Went right to this when I saw "Paul Smith" and "Howard The Duck", and while that's not the case, anything with the words "Michael Golden" on it is terrific too. Always striving for accuracy, happy to help. :)
