Ariel Olivetti He-Man, Masters of the Universe
Featured: 1/23/2026
Owner Anthony D.
The most powerful man in the universe returns to Eternia this year! The trailer for a new feature film adaptation of Masters of the Universe (MoTU) dropped this week and like its predecessor from 1987, appears to [spoilers] switch scenery from Earth, where He-Man is an office worker named Adam Glenn, to Eternia.
Unlike the 1987 movie this one appears to skew closer to the original toy line/animated series/comic books with the cast of characters and their appearance. Created in the early 80s by Mattel to capitalize on the action figure craze, MoTU combined sci-fi and fantasy together while reusing pieces from the Big Jim toy line. Roger Sweet, one of the designers on the project and creator of the name He-Man, said he wanted to give kids a powerful hero to admire and emulate. This featured illustration shows He-Man himself in all his musclebound glory in a portrait painted by Ariel Olivetti. This could well hang in the somber halls of Castle Greyskull or King Randor's palace in honor of the protector of Eternia. |
Invaders Now! #3 Cover - Alex Ross
Featured: 1/22/2026
Owner Colin McMaster
The heroes of World War II fight their old foes once again on this painted cover by Alex Ross. The worm's eye perspective puts the reader at the center of the action as the Invaders fight to regain the upper hand in this image. Warrior Woman dominates the scene as the central figure and stepping on Steve Rogers' face puts a stamp on just how dire this situation is. Bucky and Namor are similarly struggling against their respective opponents and it takes the combined power of Torch and Toro to keep Iron Cross at bay. The scene is a dynamic homage to the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation and their ultimate defeat of fascism.
If you want to see some Ross original pieces in person, the Dunn Museum in Libertyville, IL currently hosts the Alex Ross: Heroes & Villains exhibition for a limited time. Check it out before it closes on February 16, 2026. |
Francis Manapul - Tomb Raider
Featured: 1/21/2026
Owner Murray Roach
Lara Croft, the titular heroine of the Tomb Raider video game series, is set to come back in a new live action series. Game of Thrones veteran Sophie Turner was tapped to step into the role and has reportedly been hard at work getting ready.
"I'm playing the games, I'm reading the comics. I've got the Colossal Collections, which are 500 pages. I'm kind of doing all of it, but not really focusing on the previous [film] iterations, because I don't want to imitate, I've gotta create my own thing," Turner told the press. "I'm really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I'm excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider." This sketch was drawn by Francis Manapul who drew a few issues of the comics series. He captures the essence of the character well, with her guns drawn and leaping into action on her latest adventure. |
Fantastic Four 210 THE SEARCH FOR GALACTUS
Featured: 1/20/2026
The cosmos trembles before the presence of Galactus the Devourer of Worlds! Artist Keith Pollard captures the grand scale of this storyline as Galactus stands dominant as the central figure of this cover surrounded by planets, asteroids, and he is unperturbed by the comet that is moments away from striking him square in the chest. The visages of each of the Fantastic Four gaze upon Galactus in awe. This issue finds the FF in the awkward position of asking for Galactus's aid in order to defeat the Sphinx for which Mr. Fantastic offers to release him from his promise to leave Earth alone.
"Keith Pollard [is] an artist who has largely been overlooked by fandom in the years since then," Marvel editor Tom Brevoort noted on his blog. "He wasn't flashy, but Pollard was a meat-and-potatoes performer who had really good stints not only on Fantastic Four but also Amazing Spider-Man and Thor at around this time." |
MARCH Book 3, pg 229
Featured: 1/19/2026
Owner T J
In celebration of Martin Luther King Day this featured page comes from the series March, the graphic memoir of John Lewis, a central figure of the civil rights movement and longtime U.S. Congressman from Georgia. Lewis is depicted alongside Dr. King, Coretta Scott King, and several other leaders preparing to take the historic march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to Selma, AL.
Artist Nate Powell spoke with the Comics Journal about highlighting lesser known leaders, "One reason March was made was because of – well, what in the U.S. the Southern Poverty Law Centre calls – “the nine-word problem.” Most American kids graduate from high school knowing nine words about the Civil Rights Movement: Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, I Have a Dream. I was definitely one of those kids who grew up with the nine-word problem, so was [co-writer Andrew Aydin]." As everyone knows, Powell will join us in a few weeks at the third annual Original Art Expo [OAX] in Orlando, FL. Check with his rep at Athenaeum Comic Art for any originals he may have available from this series. |
Chris Uminga John Carpenter The Thing spider-head
Featured: 1/18/2026
Owner stephen yarish
Even a shape-shifting, bloodthirsty creature from beyond the stars can look cute when it is drawn by Christopher Uminga. Known for his commissions and many variant covers, his artwork has an endearing, cartoony quality that makes just about any character approachable.
"I'm a horror guy, so I love drawing horror. I just finished [a] Pinhead today," he told Bill Cox in last week's CAF update episode. "I usually do my sketch cards like warm-ups either at night or at the end of the day… they are just so fun." As everyone knows, Uminga will be a guest at the third annual Original Art Expo [OAX] from February 20-22, 2026 in Orlando, FL. His pre-show commission list has already been capped but he will take on more during the show so make sure to stop by his table and check out his wares. |
Doctor Strange by Kevin Nowlan
Featured: 1/17/2026
Owner Killian Cramers
Many creators get associated with the characters they draw and naturally fans frequently ask for those commissions. For Kevin Nowlan it is the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange.
"I started doing conventions and quickly realized that he was a favorite pick for a lot of art collectors. That was my very first job in comics, drawing a fill-in issue of Doctor Strange. And I always felt like I didn't do such a good job on that first issue," Nowlan told Bill Cox in the latest CAF update episode. "Done a million covers and smaller things like that, but I always feel like I'm trying to to get it right, you know, that perfect Doctor Strange is still out there for me. I'm still trying to really nail that character." As everyone knows, Nowlan will once again join us in just a few weeks at the DoubleTree Hilton in Orlando, FL for the third annual Original Art Expo [OAX]. Go onto the website now if you want to get on his pre-show commission list at the link. |
Rudy Nebres Red Sonja
Featured: 1/16/2026
Owner Roger K.
This week marked the 89th birthday of Rudy Nebres, one of the most respected inkers of his era. His knowledge of human anatomy certainly made his work stand out on the scantily clad protagonists of Savage Sword of Conan and Red Sonja with lush brushstrokes giving the figures definition and an organic look. In this featured pinup, a sword maiden (likely but not confirmed to be Red Sonja) stands ready to battle the hideous beast lurching out at her from off panel. Despite her revealing costume, Nebres treads the line of making her look powerful instead of merely a sex object.
"[Nebres] has got to be one of the nicest guys in comics. He is very humble, almost too self-effacing. He is humble to the point that I want to hit him in the head and say, "You are better than you think you are. You are great," Neal Adams reportedly said of Nebres. "He is that humble, but he puts better lines on the page than any artist or inker I know." |
Absolute Batman #1 Cover: Dragotta/Felix Comic Art exclusive variant
Featured: 1/15/2026
Owner Yo Kuri
There is no question that the Absolute Universe has caught fire with readers, reviving interest in the DC heroes with Absolute Batman from writer Scott Snyder (who turns 50 years old today) and artist Nick Dragotta taking the lead. This featured variant cover shows off some of the design work Dragotta put into the character to make him distinct but still recognizable as the Dark Knight of Gotham City.
"My job, as the artist, is to come up with something new and different, but make him instantly recognizable as Batman. The challenge is there is 80 years of Batman history and we want to create a new Batman for this day and age. That's a real design challenge. I'm so beholden to the history that I did not want to mess with the silhouette." Dragotta told Newsarama. "I drew him big on the first attempt and Scott was like "We've got to go bigger." |
MICO SUAYAN: MAN- THING... AMAZING SPIDER-MAN:FEAR ITSELF #1
Featured: 1/14/2026
Owner EDGAR LIM
Deep in the Everglades Spider-Man finds the Man-Thing, guardian of the nexus of realms. This cover art is one of Mico Suayan's first for Marvel from when he first started working for the company after a chance meeting with Joe Quesada led to gigs on Marvel Comics Presents: Magneto and Moon Knight.
"This is actually one of my favorite covers I did. It really fits my style, the dark nature of [Man-Thing]," Suayan said about this piece on CAF+. "One of my least favorite things to do like doing buildings, cars, and stuff because you have to use a ruler for that but with this kind of stuff, doing trees, rocks that's one of my favorites because I can go ballistic on it with the strokes and the brush work." If you are headed to Orlando, FL next month for Original Art Expo [OAX] now is the time to book any pre-show commissions you may want. Jiggy Cruz from Next Comic Art announced that the final call has gone out for Suayan and the rest of the NCA artists coming. Book yours now on the website at the link. |
John Wayne at the Apache Motel by JP Cuison (Gigzilla) - Comic Art Live Mystery Sketch (May 2025)
Featured: 1/13/2026
Owner Rick W
Regular CAF+ watchers undoubtedly recognize the distinct style of today's featured artist JP Cuison (aka Gigzilla) whose influences include pop artists like Shepard Fairey and Andy Warhol in addition to comics artists.
"When it comes to art, pop culture is my favorite topic, just as other artists stick to one subject for their work," Cuison said in an interview. "Some paint landscapes and portraits; I stick to pop culture and its icons." American cinema has few figures more iconic than the Duke himself, John Wayne, shown here relaxing poolside at the Apache Motel, reportedly his favorite place to stay when shooting films in the Moab desert. As everyone knows, Cuison will be a guest in just six weeks at the third annual Original Art Expo [OAX] in Orlando, FL! And he is still accepting pre-show commissions for a limited time, lock in yours today on the website at the link. |
Daredevil Issue 7 page 18
Featured: 1/12/2026
Owner Ben Bressel
The Marvel Knights reboot of Daredevil in 1998 gave the Man Without Fear a needed step into the limelight with a dynamic new creative team and a storyline with plot points that continue to affect the character today. Writer Kevin Smith came up with a story that reflected Kraven's Last Hunt where the hero is broken down like never before.
"[Mysterio] would pick not his greatest villain because Spider-Man would just crack his helmet and then it's over he would go after somebody else's villain, somebody who had no idea, wouldn't see him coming, didn't get it whatsoever and stuff so it came together piecemeal like that," writer Kevin Smith told Syfy Wire. "I told penciller Joe Quesada] and [inker Jimmy Palmiotti] and they were like Mysterio would be fun to draw, let's do that." In this feature page, Daredevil confronts the enemy who has twisted his life and grip on reality through lies and illusions. The first panel has a sharp perspective with only the silhouette of DD visible through the smoke. It helps accentuate the fear and defeat Mysterio feels in the moment as well the rage of Daredevil. |
G I Joe: A Real American Hero Vol 1 TPB Cover (2024)
Featured: 1/11/2026
Owner Alberto Gonzalez
In the current trend of resurrecting franchises from the late 20th century, Skybound has taken the lead by partnering with the toy company Hasbro on their properties Transformers, MASK, and GI Joe. This featured trade cover by Chris Mooneyham was published as the first trade collection for the ongoing A Real American Hero title which continues the story Larry Hama has been writing for over four decades as opposed to the Energon Universe title which is a new continuity altogether. Here we have depicted many of the classic heroes and villains with the Cobra leaders Serpentor, Cobra Commander and Dr. Mindbender posed ominously in the top half while below them a squad of Joes including Duke, Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, and Stalker charge into battle.
"I don't play around with [redesigning characters] a whole lot. I guess Serpentor Khan I got to play with a little bit.," Mooneyham told the Talking Joe podcast in an interview. "But as far as like designing stuff, there's not really a whole lot of opportunity other than just sort of bringing my own flare to something." This week Mooneyham was added to the Original Art Expo [OAX] guest roster alongside eleven other artists. Come meet them all in Orlando, FL on February 20-22nd! |
Spider-Woman by Boris Vallejo
Featured: 1/10/2026
Owner Jose Caballero
This week saw the 85th birthday of maestro Boris Vallejo, painter extraordinaire whose dynamic and physiologically ideal figures have graced the covers of comic, novel, and calendars for over fifty years.
In 1996 Vallejo and his wife and frequent collaborator Julie Bell were tapped to illustrate the entire fifth series of Marvel Masterpieces trading cards which is still highly sought after by collectors. In this featured image Spider-Woman crouches on a silver ball in a very high tech looking room. Vallejo has portrayed her in such sharp detail that her costume looks like it has been painted directly on her skin rather than fabric. "We are artists. We don't do art as a job. It is who we are and we put it into what we do," Vallejo said in an interview. "So what people see in our paintings is just much much more than a job, it's actually really a big, big part of who we are." |
Spider-Man Sunday Strip 1-9-2000
Featured: 1/9/2026
Owner Anthony Guerriero
"This is a job for Spider-Man," the webslinger says in a meta-moment as he swings into the scene to save a hostage while the police huddle around the corner. In addition to being an action packed Sunday strip that is fully signed by creative team of writer Stan Lee, penciller Alex Saviuk, and inker Joe Sinnott, this might be the very best day to feature this art since it was published on today's date twenty-six years ago.
As everyone knows, Saviuk will bring Spider-Man dailies and Sunday strips next month to the third annual Original Art Expo [OAX] in Orlando, FL. He has extended an offer to OAX attendees that if there is a specific date from the strip that you would like him to bring, he will see what is available and bring the pieces with him to OAX. Send an email to info@oa-expo.com with the date(s) you're interested in, and we'll pass along your request to Alex. Plus his pre-OAX list is still open for commissions. |
Charles Addams
Featured: 1/8/2026
Owner Zaddick L
Everyone knows Charles Addams as the creator of the creepy and kooky Addams Family which has remained popular for decades on television, film, and animation. But he began as a cartoonist in The New Yorker, where this featured 1940 cartoon titled Downhill Skier really launched him into the public eye. A skier has casually avoided missing a tree but following his tracks shows it must have been physically impossible. Addams' cartoons often presented an otherwise mundane scenario intersecting with a fantastic scenario, often to the amazement of a wide-eyed bystander.
When asked by Life Magazine in 1942 what was the highlight of his career, Addams replied, "1) Being bitten by a camel in Central Park. 2) The adoption of my ski cartoon by a Western asylum, to determine mental levels of patients." This cartoon was so famous more than a dozen comics have recreated it in homage. |

KAYA #1 variant cover (Miller homage)
Featured: 1/6/2026
Owner Reba Jacobs
When Wes Craig started his own series Kaya, he drew variant covers for the first several issues in homage to his artistic influences.
"I think it's something that occurred to me in the first arc. I thought it would be cool to show people some of my inspirations for this book, to give people a feel for what kind of book this was going to be," Craig said in an interview with Sketchd. "So, for the first story arc, I did a play on a [Jack Kirby] cover, an Adventure Time cover, a Hellboy, a Frank Frazetta Conan cover, and a Mœbius cover. I tried to do the style of each of those artists to varying degrees of success. I can do a pretty good Kirby and [Mike Mignola], but it's a little bit tougher to do a Mœbius and especially a Frank Frazetta. Apparently, I can't just become a master oil painter in a matter of a few days." This featured cover is done in honor of Frank Miller, with the harsh black and white chiaroscuro style of Sin City and the duo leaping through the rain while backlit by lightning as a nod to Dark Knight Returns. |
