DescriptionThis is my favorite Batman image by John Byrne. It was not done as a commission. John drew this one because he was in a Batman mood, and it is an inspired piece. Many thanks to Pastor Scott for finally relenting and seeling it to me. The pearl of my collectionSocial/Sharing |

So glad it went to a real fan and collector instead of just somebody who just wants to use it for "trade bait" or to trying just to make a profit on. This is a wonderful piece to see in person and looking at it you know that John drew it with a deep love he has for the Batman. Love everything about this piece (the city background that lies underneath the crouching Batman, what the Bat is sitting on along with the movement of the cape, shows a very serious and intense Batman, along with it being a very clean piece with not a bit of whiteout, etc) and I would consider this to be your top Byrne piece in your wonderful Byrne Bats commissions. Enjoy my friend and I know it has found a home for a very, very long time.

Man, I turn my back on your gallery for a few weeks and bam! it fills up with even more great art. I love the clean smooth lines that I see here and that I think is missing in some of Byrne's more recent art.

Holy Christmas you've got a lot of Byrne art! If anyone thinks Byrne has 'lost it' in recent years these commissions will certainly prove them wrong! This Batman is simply incredible perfectly beautiful and one of the best Byrne pieces I've seen. The inking is masterful, especially on the architecture and gargoyle. Dig that the framing line isn't a perfect straight edge and shows some character. Terrific piece all around.

Very very nice. The chin looks a little Art Adams to me... weird. Great piece, very lovely attention to detail on this one. Thanks for sharing.

The life of a professional artist is a difficult one, there are long hours, seemingly endless editorial changes, deadlines and usually, not always, but usually, you are drawing things not because you want to, but because you have to. However, every so often, the artist does work that is not only of his own inspiration, but also as a vehicle through which to channel artistic feelings that may have been nurtured within him for a period of time and are simply waiting for the right moment for release. This piece by John Byrne, along with your description, screams of such an inspired release. To this day, Mr. Byrne remains tremendously talented and still exhibits the signature style that brought him great fame, but this piece --- perhaps alone amongst the many he has produced in recent years --- this piece, is truly inspired. Congratulations on a terrific acquisition!

Another beauty! Eerily reminiscent of the Batman bisque that came out in the early nineties. A classic by Byrne!

That's a real gem. I love how each Bat artist has a distinct style to the character.
