Original Art - Jason Armstrong (Legion of Super-heroes)

Jason Armstrong is a Toronto-based artist whose credits include “Spiderman”, “Superboy”, “The Ray”, “Mantra” and more recently, “Ferro City” and “Lobster Johnson.” But I first heard of him because of his 1998 run on “Legion of Superheroes”. He was nice enough to meet with me and sell me these pieces. All of these pages were inked by Ron Boyd. I particularly enjoy looking at these because these were done "old school" before many of the production steps were moved to a computer. Hence, the word balloons were written right on the page, paste-ups were used for changes and special effects were drawn on a separate overlay. You can still follow some of the process with penciled-in spelling corrections and directions like "Easy on the bracelets, Ron!" I've also included scans of the final printed versions. The original pages are beautiful but you see them in a single plane. In the colored versions, the characters really stand out from the background.
