Description
Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, Foemina. Tecnica mista su cartoncino. Cm 40x30.

Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri was born in Venezia in 1944. He is Renato Gattuso’s student. But during his experience as a painter he doesn’t follow the path of his teacher as he goes from oil colors to acrylic colors trying to look for a more personal style.
In the 1970s his career as a comic artist begins by drawing western stories for Lanciostory. His talent doesn’t go unnoticed and in the early 1980s he gets hosted among the artists of the newborn magazine “Orient Express”. In 1985 he realizes “Morbus Gravis”, a comic which storyline is a mixture of sci-fi, erotism and adventure.
Its most famous character is Druuna that’s realized for the French monthly “Charlie” and published in Italia in episodes in the magazine “L'Eternauta”.
After the success of the first episode of Druuna, the storyline and the characters are still developed nowadays. In October 2018 the last episode of the saga, “Venuta dal Vento”, gets presented at Lucca Comics & Games and published by Lo Scarabeo.
Serpieri’s artwork success and specifically Druuna’s becomes followed not only in Italia but also internationally. Sometimes Serpieri has fun by drawing himself into his comics: he lends his features to background characters and also to important characters as well. It happens in westerns and in Druuna as well: his features become the ones of Doc.
Serpieri’s opera Omnia is published in Italia by Lo Scarabeo.
Serpieri receives various awards: Best foreigner drawer, Iyères (Tolone), 1981 and Award Betty Boop, 1991. Nettuno Anaf, Bologna 1982 e 1987. Yellow Kid for Best Italian Illustrator, Lucca 1982. He receives the award for Best Book of the Year, Durbuy (Bruxelles) 1987. Prix Harvey, San Diego, 1995. In Durbuy, near Bruxelles, there’s a square that carries his name as an acknowledgment of his works and him as a great artist.
