Description
This is the second of two consecutive pages (Page 3 & Page 4) that I acquired from "Worms of the Earth" by Robert E. Howard (adapted by Roy Thomas) and published by Marvel Comics in The Savage Sword of Conan #16 - December 1976. This story is the opening chapter in the saga of Bran Mak Morn as illustrated by Barry Smith and Tim Conrad. Barry Smith provided the pencils for the first seven or so pages and then walked away from the project, as I believe he was taking his leave from Marvel. Tim Conrad provided the inks, ink wash and airbrushed gray-tones for this incredible page! Lucky for me, both of my pages were penciled by Barry and finished by Tim. The combination of their talents created a dark and somber masterpiece, and after Barry's departure, Tim did a fantastic and seamless job of continuing the story on his own, as if nothing had happened, just incredible! I only wish these two men had gone on to work together for many more years.

Images of this crucifixion are made even more cruel and brutal through the BWS storytelling and the finishes that deepens the impact of suffering.  All this happening under a serene open sky that shows no mercy with the atmosphere by Conrad.
