Description

At the 2022 edition of the Baltimore Comic Con, I came across Alan Davis' table which was manned by my friend, Larry Tun along with Paul Greer, Alan's US helper.

I hadn't brought my pad of paper, but I did have two sketchbooks. One was Sheldon Mayer's characters. The other? Artist's Choice.

In that sketchbook, the artists can draw whatever they wish (well, up to PG-13 anyway), but they have to write on the back why they drew what they did.

That led to a fun drawing from Alan of Alan.

Something similar happened at HeroesCon 2023. I found myself in Alan's line with only my Sheldon Mayer sketchbook. So, I did the obvious! :)

Alan was especially unprepared for the tots, but I think he adapted well. He did look a bit bemused at first; I'm sure he thought something like, "You want ME to draw THAT?"

But the man is a professional and recovered quickly, he flipped through my reference and chose to build his drawing off the OA for my S&S cover. I got a nice drawing and The Hero Initiative got a nice donation from my comic art budget.

One day, I will find a page from Superboy's Legion.

Nicely done, Alex! Another stellar addition to your massive Sugar & Spike collection! Now, if you could only get Alan to do a Sugar & Spike 100 cover where they team up with Excalibur!!
