Zatara by Ron Boyd

Done in Toronto, August 2003 by artist Ron Boyd. This is the only drawing of Zatanna's father John Zatara (my internet namesake) but I honestly should get a few more sketches of him. Although he was nothing more then a Mandrake the Magician clone, Zatara has remained to be one of my favorite golden age characters. Most likely due to the fact that he is by far the most elegant of the golden age characters. Boyd's rendition of Zatara is very dark and very eerie and could easily mistake him as a villian (the Wizard perhaps?) However I feel that his rendition really captures the darkness of Zatara's first appearance in Action Comics #1.
