Vampira by Ronn Sutton

Done in Toronto, August 2003 by "Elvira" artist Ronn Sutton. Pictured is 1950's scream queen Maila Nurmi, better known as Vampira. Although most famous for her appearance in Ed Wood's classic "Plan 9 From Outerspace", Vampira was a the original sexy B horror movie wisecracking television host appearing late night out of Los Angelas. Vampira was somewhat of a sensation at her time. However, in the 1980's Nurmi sued Elvira for stealing her shctick but lost the case. Ronn was quick to bring up this fact, completly siding with Elvira saying Vampira had nothing in her case. I disagreed completly feeling that Vampira deffinatly created the act. However Ronn went on to remind me that it was all Charles Addams at the end of the day. Good call Ronn. Never thought of that. Anyhow, I always prefered Vampira more then Elvira anyhow. More my type perhaps, although i grew up on Elvira's late night show. One day I will really have to get Ronn to draw me Elvira, although next we meet I'm hoping to get him to do my a Solidad Miranda - sexy star of "Vampyros Lesbos." Yup - I'm never satisfied with non obscure characters. :)
