Description
GRAIL PIECE. Bought as a birthday present for myself.

An awesome page featuring both title characters.
Dracula kills a prostitute (and hides his bitemarks by slashing her throat twice). Flies away in bat form, leaving her corpse on a run down couch in an alley. A gorgeous close-up of the murdered prositute (an image that really stuck in my head when I first read the book at age 12 :) ). The first appearance of Batman in the story (albeit in shadow) and the page ends the following day at Wayne Manor where Bruce wakes up in bed and a vampire in mist form enters the room.
Fantastic compositions throughout, wonderfully varied inking techniques by Malcolm Jones III and a prime example of Kelley Jones’s dramatic storytelling.
This is one of the books that got me into American comics and I still consider this one of the best Batman stories of all time. I’m very proud to own a page from this book that had such an impact on me, and still stands up to this day.

As a nice bonus, there are 4 full figure sketches of Batman and a shield wielding Captain America on that back drawn by inker Malcolm Jones III.
I included some detailed close-up scans of certain panels, see below, as well as a scan of the sketches from the back of the page.

This serves as a great companion piece to my Batman ink illustration by Kelley Jones, which is still one of the most cherished pieces in my collection.

Thanks for posting, and the comment about it being a birthday present to yourself. Now I won't feel so bad when I have to over spend to obtain a good quality Kelly page.

Really a Grail page, Kristof, congrats! Also, I was 10 years older than you when I read this story, but I can assure you that the impact was quite remarkable...

This is really an incredibly good example of Kelley Jones art. Paired with his best inker, working on his best characters. Iconic.
