Description
I first saw this wonderful Clifford McBride comic strip in one of Jerry Muller's or Bruce Bergstom's comic art catalogs some 25ish years ago. I didn't buy it back then, but thought about the strip from time-to-time. Fast-forward to Russ Cochran's last auction of 2012, and there was the piece. While I wasn't aware that the piece had been mounted down to an old piece of foamcore, I'm glad to finally own it nonetheless. And the foamcore will be taken care of at some point.

The cartoon saw print in September 1931, and has the feel of great old British cartooning. Sort of like a poor man's H.M. Bateman.

Update (3 May 2013) - With many thanks to Robert Dennis, the McBride cartoon has been properly restored/conserved. Robert removed the piece from the old battered foamcore, and lightened the paper just a hair. Excellent work all the way way around. Thanks Robert!

A before and after image is below.

Very lovely art. McBride was a real great artist and this no-words story confirms it. Congratulations.

Very nice indeed! I truly believe his art is underrated.
