Earl Oliver HURST - Jantzen swimsuit ad illustration, 1944

Hurst was the artist for Jantzen Knitting Mills in the mid-1940s, between stints by George Petty in the 30s and Pete Hawley in the later 40s and 50s. Hurst's trademark is his use of bold colors and deceptively simple lines. I was struggling over this purchase, but Bill Maio talked me into it. By the way, Bill, my wife says you're a bad influence!

It does appear that after 70 years of being stored and protected from sunlight, the tans on these good-looking young folks have faded. It's just as well. Melanoma isn't cool anymore, guys!
