17" x 15" Tempera medium.

Card art from Middle Earth The Wizards CCG.

Although the title of the card is Ancient Deep-hold, it is indeed Doug's vision of Tolkien's Moria.

This is 1 of a set of 4 paintings by Doug. I picked up the entire set at Gen Con in Milwaukee WI in 1998. The paintings were done for the Iron Crown Enterprises' collectable card game - Middle Earth The Wizards.

The Tempera medium was the medium of choice up until around 1500 when oil painting was invented. Many of the ancient classic paintings were done with Tempera.

These Kovacs paintings were the first original paintings I had ever purchased.
