Description
Silver Surfer 50 is the issue that was really the first of the gimmick covers - the slick, heavy card stock, embossed, hologram, die-cut forefather of them all. This was also one of the most classic modern age anniversary issues ever. It featured an incredible story that detailed Norrin Radd as a youth on Zenn-La and of course featured this classic pummeling both physically and mentally of Surfer by Thanos via his Thanos Statue. It seemed like during this era Thanos really raked Silver Surfer over the coals and his dominance over Surfer would be felt for years. It was an unusual role for such a nearly omnipotent character such as The Surfer to find himself in.

This classic issue was once again rendered masterfully by the dynamic Ron Lim, who in my opinion drew the quintessential Silver Surfer as his design dominated the 90's.

I remember how Silver Surfer #50 was such a big deal in middle school. That gimmick cover drew lots of oohs and aaahs. Such a cool page.

Awesome Thanos and Surfer page! Starlin’s words almost read like poetry, with the rhymes and structure.

Great page throughout, and a a great description!  Shots of both SS and Thanos indicative of Lim's awesome work at the time.  Poor Surfer :)  Also love the detail he put into cosmic backgrounds, like the top panel here!  Congrats!

A gripping page and a super description.  Plus, Thanos is a poet, but does not know it ("tarnished foe, tale of woe")
