We're cranking up the way-back machine and going to the year 1966! It was during that year that THE AVENGERS #38 came out featuring the avenging debut of the Prince of Power himself: Hercules! But Herc hardly debuted as an ally. Instead, he found himself under the spell of Asgardian bad girl Amora the Enchantress, who teleports him and herself right into Avengers Mansion. Well, you know what comes next: A throwdown between Herc and the few Avengers on duty at that moment, one of whom just happened to be Hank Pym, then going by the name Goliath! So the Lion of Olympus and the giant Avenger go toe-to-toe and you can the result for yourself. I love seeing Hercules talk trash. Best part is when he tells Goliath to go look for some dwarves to fight because he's out of his weight class fighting him!
The HR version is drawn by a newbie to my gallery: Ruairi Coleman! I set up the commission with his rep, Geoffrey Martin, and the rest is history. I think Ruairi did an outstanding job here and look forward to having him do more work for me in the future. The original artwork is by the late, great Don Heck.
***Special thanks to the great MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE 76 GUY himself, BRIAN SAGAR, for using his technical wizardry to merge the two images above together! Not to mention being the inspiration for the Heroes Redrawn concept!***
