Description
Detective Comics (Vol. 1) #585 Original Cover Art (April 1988). This issue features the first appearance of Otis Flannegan, aka The Ratcatcher, in the appropriately named story "The Ratcatcher". The Ratcatcher has an ability to train animals to do his will, and this cover depicts Batman's first encounter with him in the Gotham sewers as a hoard of rats attack and try to overwhelm him (which we all know is only a temporary challenge for the Dark Knight). This cover was illustrated by the amazing Jerry Bingham and showcases just how great of an artist he is. A full body Batman, his suit shredded by an army of rats, is enough to make you want to squirm. The details are astounding throughout, and I am thrilled to own this piece!

Accomplished in ink over graphite on 11" X 17" art board. Signed to the bottom left in the UPC area by Bingham.

A classic amongst the many covers of the time period.  Bingham crafts this to strike an unease and a phobia that few would think possible from a comic book image.  It reaches deeper feelings than any typical action cover.

Wow!  I remember this one very, very, well.  And it's so great to see it here.  Congratulations on a truly fabulous piece of Batman art.

Rat-tastic!  Great looking image and super effective in getting you to pick up the book and open it up to see what's up inside!  Congrats, David!

This cover always makes me think of the movie Willard. Batman vs Willard was such a great concept that I'm surprised it took until the late 80s to think of it.

Vivid memories of this cover from my youth. The great thing about this, is the visceral reaction it elicits. The rats are literally just being rats, which would be overwhelming for anyone, even the world's greatest detective

I have fond memories of reading this off the rack. I think this might be Bingham's best-ever Batman. I far prefer this to Son of the Demon, which seemed like an odd choice for a prestige format book at the time.
