Description
Steel is a mainstay character in the Justice League Unlimited animated series. Outside of the original seven, he appears in the series as much as any other character. I knew I had to add him to the book, but really didn't know who to approach about getting it done.

Prentis Rollins is an inker I am very familiar with, as his time at DC coincided with when I was reading DC comics the most. However, I had never had a chance to meet him at any show. When I approached Mr. Rollins about doing a sketch, he ended up asking me questions about how that works. I got the impression he doesn't do many con sketches. He honestly didn't even know what to charge. He asked me what I wanted, and I mentioned Steel. He stated he had inked a few issues of Steel in the 1990s and was very interested in revisiting the character. I asked if $50 for a bust was acceptable, and he said "yes". I met Prentis at the Lehigh Valley Comic Con on 04/13/2024. $50 for a pencil only bust.

He put the work into this one.  The different shades of pencil he used added depth and shape for this chiseled face of Steel!

Sometimes I wonder if inkers want to prove they can draw, because I have a pencil sketch from Bob Wiacek that I adore as well.  I am so happy with this sketch.

I'm sure they do.  They can turn in some of the best pin ups because they ae used to adding the finishing touch on published art.  It's the storytelling that may take more time for them to dream up.  Guys like McLeod proved they can do it.

Just wanted to say thanks for mentioning the price in your caption-- I'm hoping to meet him at Lehigh Valley this year, and get a sketch for my book!

It's a fun show.  I went last year.  Very easy access to the creators.  Make sure you post the sketch you get from Prentis!  I'd like to see it.  Good luck!
