Some of you may know that for a while, Ben Grimm -- a.k.a. the Thing -- joined the Avengers. He was invited to join a New Avengers team by Luke Cage, who was leading a spinoff group of the primary Avengers group at the time. They stayed in Avengers Mansion while the "main" team occupied Avengers Tower.
So one day, former Avengers member Wonder Man -- who apparently went nuts and was going through a dark period -- decided the very concept of the Avengers was a threat to society and threatened to take them down. On this day, he followed through on that threat. He assembled his own team of D-List and disgruntled superheroes to trounce the team and level the Mansion. The D-listers included such heroes as Devil-Slayer, D-Man, Anti-Venom, Ethan Edwards, and Century. On this page, we see them in mid-attack, having already turned much of the inner mansion into debris under which is buried members of the Avengers such as Wolverine and Doctor Strange. Ben is buried too, but manages to unearth himself and confront the attackers singlehandedly.
The original artist of this page, Gabriele Dell'otto, redesigned the looks and costumes of Devil-Slayer and D-Man. But I liked their original looks better, and so I asked the great Chris Marrinan to reimagine and redraw this page and give those two characters their original outfits. I think he did an outstanding job!
