Description
Superman vs. Lobo! I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a rivalry as old as time, but fans such as myself love whenever these two come to blows! Anyway, a super cool cover, with that classic "two-characters-rushing-at-each-other" theme; Rafa Sandoval does a killer job here!

Absolutely phenomenal clash of titans cover! Although, as a Lobo hater who has never read any of his appearances beyond maybe his first two in Omega Men, I think this is more like a clash of Titan versus Weakling, asthere'sno way anyone will convinceme that Lobo has even 1/1000 the strength that Superman has, based on what I've seen of Lobo, yet not read. Superman will pulverize him, end of story.

I have to know, how does Sandoval achieve that blurred look? It looks so digital, that I don't think I'll be able to begin to appreciate the technique until I see one of these pieces in person and figure out how the effect is done. Anyway, cool, kick ass cover, Simon!

Thanks, Seamus. You know, I still sometimes make the mistake of wrongfully assuming that just because I always present the art EXACTLY as the original looks like in the interest of full disclosure, that ALL collectors do as well. Simon is a friend of mine, and I just remembered that he doesn't have a scanner. Which makes me then think that this scan was provided to him by the artist or his rep, which in turn makes me believe that my initial instinct is likely the correct one and that this is NOT a scan of the original art, but rather a scan of the art after it was manipulated digitally for publication.

At any rate, fill us in, Simon!

Thanks for that link as I had no idea. What I can say is that I just finished reading the first arc of the series and was bothered with Sandoval's use of digital elements that is visible on the printed page (whereas he is a an artist I've loved and followed in the industry) not to even mention the impact is has on OA (sales). Based on that thread I read, at worst something fishy has been going on, at best it's a case of true bad communication on the product sold and needs to be addressed correctly.

Haha well 1) Lobo can and definitely has taken on, and even trounced Superman before and 2) the scan is accurate! The blurry look is just something he was able to do and is not digital. I didn't think this piece would be the topic of controvery today haha, but here we are! Go figure! Anyway, suffice to say that while other covers of his might also include some digital working, this one isn't. I did use a photo that was supplied to me and didn't take a new one since the actual art matches the image in this instance! Hope that helps :)

Also, the finished cover that went to market might be different, but this piece and the scan are perfectly accurate of each other. This just might be one of those few moments when the scan wasn't manipulated digitally...I mean, I'm holding the OA next to me now, you've gotten me all nervous about it haha but to me, it looks the exact same as the image here!

Lobo has trounced Superman before?!? Thank the comic gods that I stopped reading back in 1993! After all, bad stories and art was the exact thing that pushed me out. Thisis agreat example of that. Lobo can trounce Superman? Really? I hope whoever wrote those stories was also forced out of the business for writing such tripe!

Thanks for clarifying about the art. Wow, it boggles my mind how he does the blur effect with traditional media. The horizontal lines I understand, as I can tell those are traditional. It's specifically the largest stone at the top right as well as the second largest one at the bottom that appear to be digitally blurred. That's crazy and now I REALLY want to see one of these covers in person!

It kind of looks like the classic Superman vs Shazam! covers.  Only this time it's a foe that's a lot meaner with the lowdown Lobo!

A fantastic clash of titans! This instantly brings to mind some very memorable encounters between these two from the 90s.

The artwork is great! The speedlines and focus on the characters works really well. Congrats and thanks for sharing!
