Really nice piece. I agree that not since Curt Swan has anyone captured the look, the feel, the sheer excitement of Superman as John Byrne has.
It is a pity that his recent Action run was ruined by the inks. I felt like I was watching Colletta ruin Kirby's gorgeous pencils on the Fourth World or Thor (compare the two, on both artists, sometime -- over at Byrne's website and in the fantastic Jack Kirby Collector). I guess everyone here knows that (about the inking) and has varying opinions about Vinnie -- I understand the man had to make a living and work fast but to a fan of Kirby is is almost sacrilege to ink over those kinds of pencils the way he did. I feel the same way about Nelson's inks on Action.
I wish Giordano had done the inks on Man of Steel -- John says a lot of it was farmed out to other inkers even though credited to Dick.
