Countryman and Young American

This is the flashback image that I did for me and Adam Withers' Better Know a Unique: Countryman, post on our blog. These characters are obviously derivative of Captain America and Bucky (although I feel that Young American is much cooler then Bucky) to a certain extent, being as they are the patriotic duo in the comic. Our deviation with these guys was to make the idea of Countryman, just that - an idea. You can kill a man, but not an idea. Something that we could only hope and dream that Marvel could pick up on - but God knows that we’ll be seeing Steve Rogers back in the next year or so.

Countryman is an archetype, yes, but that is the kind of thing you need in a Super Hero filled world - people and characters that fill certain rolls that help give the reader a sense of who this guy is just by looking at him. Especially when you have someone who may only show for a handful of pages in one or two of your comics, ever. It’s like the idea of Prince Charming from fairytale lore - but in a comic book, super hero, format.

The most important thing to us in our world is the sense of history, and the role of Countryman has it in spades.
