Description
To me, the collaboration of the now legendary Uncanny X-men team of Chris Claremont, John Byrne and Terry Austin produced pure magic each memorable month. After some long searching, and with some good fortune, I've found a nice page from that seminal X-men series to call my own. It is the end page from the first issue of the Proteus saga, and ends, like many comics did in those days, with a little bit of a cliffhanger. A tremendous thanks to the great Byrne collector - and all around gentleman and wonderful person - Eelco Veldhuizen for making this page available.

Wow! I know how long you've been looking for one of these...you've really found a gem. This team was at its peak during this period. Or maybe I should say "teams":) Congrats!

I agree with your "pure magic" comment : they don't make comics like this this anymore. Those cliffhangers were just perfect. One day, I'll have to own one of the pages from this run, certainly my favorite comics run ever. Sincere congrats for finding your page !

Not one person has mentioned Wolverine drinking in panel 2. Too busy ogling the ladies. I so love the Proteus storyline.

Wow! What a memorable moment in X-Men history! And it's beautifully told by the seminal lteam of John Byrne and Terry Austin. It's surprising looking back at how well the two artists' styles meshed during their run together. Everything seems to work so perfectly between them. Byrne's powerful pencils drove the storyline, even in seemingly quiet scenes like this one. And Austin's crisp, clear inks embued every scene, every panel, with an energy that made the characters come to life. Great pick-up, congrats!
