Description
Grant Morrison, after a period with different writer and artists, made the X-Men cool again. It didn't matter who the artist was (though the line-up was equally stellar with Ethan van Sciver, Phil Jimenez and Frank Quitely) as long as he was on the reins. This page is from the "Assault on Weapon Plus" storyline. After Cyclops' psychic love affair with the White Queen was discovered, he was persuaded by Wolverine and Fantomex to join them in penetrating Weapon X's orbital platform. This page shows Cyclops and Fantomex barely escaping its destruction. The issue ended with a cliffhanger as to whether Wolverine survived. It goes without saying that he did!

Agreed, many people consider Morrison's run on X-men to be the last great run on a mutant title. Whether you love him or you hate him, you have to respect that Morrison is one of the last few original idea writers in comics. Just as in Claremont's run, Morrison's run introduced many themes into the X-men books that subsequent writers repeatedly referenced and reused. Jimenez's art on that run was top notch, and this page is a nice example. Congratulations!

Phil is a great Artist that, IMHO, is really underrated. This page is detailed, dynamic and sparkling. WOW!
