While I've enjoyed Glenn Fabry's work in "Hellblazer", "Preacher" and "Neverwhere", I've not had a hankering to own a piece of his art until I read "Midnighter" No. 6. And now I have 3 of his pages! I had to break my resolution to cut back on buying original art but I think it was worth it. Set in feudal Japan, "Flowers in the Sun" is told in flashbacks by the Midnighter to Japan's best swordsmen. Our anti-hero is a samurai whose skill made him the Shogun's trusted servant. Prompted by his master, he challenges Apollo in the marketplace (this page) and the two subsequently become lovers. Now, at the anniversary of Apollo's death at the instigation of a jealous minister, Midnighter massacres an audience of swordsmen and leaves their hearts as an offering on their graves on his grave. Though gory, this was a touching story and if you haven't picked it up, I recommend that you do so at your next visit to your comic shop.
