Description
Standing alone in the rain...

Four flew into space. Three returned enhanced. One was tragically forever changed. If there existed one panel where Ben Grimm's character was perfectly portrayed, it is here. Here on this one splash, through this one window into Marvel's past, with his creator long departed from this earth, one can view what greatness is all about and where the Thing still resides to this day. The first page of comic art I ever acquired.

This is a true Grail. One of the most famous splash pages in comics from one of the greatest stories ever written. Your description was perfect. If there was a Hall of Fame for comic book art, this would be in it.

One of my favorite splash pages. Kirby always drew the best Thing.

For what we know to still exist, this is maybe THE grail piece, the most iconic, work of art of the whole run, from all the way back then to now. Fantastic, times 4.

Perhaps the best inking of a Kirby page ever.

How the heck can 2100 people view this and only 12 respond??? This might be the single greatest splash of all time. Would love to hear you tell the story of how you got it all those years back. What a great way to start collecting! !

I don't know about anyone else, but my speechless state when I look at this splash page comes from being thunderstruck by the realization that it's actually out there and someone owns it! What an incredible gem! Any chance you could post a high-rez version for those of us who can only imagine what it must be like to be able to look at that every day?

Mark, what you have here is sublime. I think this is my favourite Kirby page ever. You can literally feel and hear the rain as it bounces down the tragic and heroic figure of Ben Grimm aka The Thing, onto the hard cement/bitumen pavement. Just wonderful!

Saw this pop up on the most commented today and thought it must have changed hands, glad to have been mistaken. Congrats, and thanks for sharing this work of art with the rest of us.

That's one for the History books. Perhaps the most iconic page of all Kirby's FF run, and one of my very favorite.

A perfect blending of talents from Lee/Kirby/Sinnott/Simek, flawlessly executed, poignant and powerful, and well deserving of its place in comics history. The first fifty issues of the FF were building up to this one moment in the series!

Excuse the pun, but this is a monster splash in any respect. Jack poured his heart into this one.
