Description
One of the highlights of the 2009 Pittsburgh Comic-Con for me was getting a sketch from Terry Moore. He did a wonderfully inventive and beautifully illustrated Shadowcat for me that is one of my favorite pieces in my entire collection. Thus, when I saw he was coming back to Pittsburgh in 2011, I made a point of rushing to the front of his line. My goal: Get a matching Magik piece from him!
I was lucky enough to end up being the first person in his line this year. After he greeted me, I showed him in my portfolio how I like to get sketches from artists, then put them on opposing pages within it, so you can open it up and see both pieces at once before you. I asked him if he could thus draw a "sister" piece to the Kitty he did for me, so that the two would have a similar kind of feel. He was all for the idea, and I left him the first piece so he could refer to it as he worked. When I came back to pick the piece up, I was blown away by what you see before you.
As he produced his work, Mr. Moore pointed out to me that he darkened up Kitty's leg a bit, so it matched the second picture he did. When he showed me what he'd done, my jaw almost hit the ground. If you hold the two pieces up close to each other...you'll see that they match up perfectly into one whole background. The railing the two are leaning up against marries up perfectly on the two pieces; the tree, half-done in one picture, is completed in the other. It's a wonderful composition and a terrific piece...and was once again, one of the absolute highlights of my trip to Pittsburgh. Thanks, Mr. Moore!!! :D
