John Buscema

Of all the comic book artists, John Buscema's talent is the one who I believe could translated into a art gallery artist! Legend Jim Steranko once said that Buscema "synthesized the essence of (Jack) Kirby's supercharged action figures, harrowing prospectives, monolith structures, mega-force explosion, and mythological planetscapes into a formula that he instantly integrated into his own superbly crafted vision. The process brought Buscema's art to life in a way that it had never been before. Anatomically balanced figures of Herculean proportions stalked, stormed, sprawled, and savaged their way across Marvel's universe lie none had previously." Buscema's The Mighty Thor and Conan the Barbarian are among my favorite books by the artist and his Silver Surfer, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Tarzan, and The Sub-Mariner are also among the best illustrated comics ever! Importantly, his cover to Silver Surfer #4 (featuring Silver Surfer vs. Thor) is arguably the best comic book cover of all-time! I'm lucky to own a cover recreation by John Buscema of the SS #4 masterpiece. John Buscema was an amazing talented individual who I had the privilege of meet at the San Diego Comic Con (2001) shortly before his passing. He will always be my favorite comic book artist!
