So, several years ago I was lucky enough to purchase several JSA related pages of Dan Jurgens/Norm Rapmund’s Countdown short stories detailing the history of the DC Universe.
Unfortunately one page that was in the market eluded me ( Countdown 48, page 3) which featured the initial meetings of the Justice Society and the Justice League.
Flash forward several months and I was able to buy even more JSA related pages of the Countdown stories featuring the Justice Society directly from Norm.
When the pages arrived, Norm was kind enough to send me photocopies of the pencil breakdowns Dan had given Norm to finish.
Moving forward a couple of years. I contacted Norm and asked if he would be interested in doing a recreation of his finishes for the page I missed out on since I had a photocopy to work off of.
Norm said he was very busy at the time but would consider it at some point in the future.
Which brings us to 2020 and my wife’s annual question, “What commission do you want for your birthday?”
I thought about it for quite a while because I have worked with most of the artists I would like to do Justice Society commissions.
Then it occurred to me that maybe now was the right time to reach out to Norm and ask him if he wanted to take a crack at JSA Countdown 48, page 3.
Norm said he had never done a page recreation before, but was willing to give it a shot and here as you can see is my incredible wife’s birthday present to me.
One final note, huge thanks to the Marvel-Two-in-One- Guy for his invaluable technical assistance.
Enjoy!
