I was saddened to hear of Nick Cardy's passing. I have been fortunate to meet some truly wonderful people over the years and Nick was one of them. He was one of the nicest - and funniest - people in comics. I never tired of hearing his stories (or hearing the same ones over again.) And, of course, he was an exceptional artist and one of my favorites. I always enjoyed seeing him at Heroes Con in Charlotte, often with his charming neice. In late 2007, my Dad and I drove down and visited with Nick. We took him out to lunch and then went back to his home and had a great time sitting around talking (well, Nick talking and us listening) about art and movies and whatever else came to mind. The walls of his home were adorned with his paintings, some commercial and some personal, and the shelves were filled with books and videotapes of old movies. I did not talk to Nick nearly often enough, but every time I did he would say, "Now, when you hang up [the phone], you're going to have a ringing in your ears [from my talking], but it should wear off in a few days." I miss the ringing ...
