*Porcupine Tree*

I have had the good fortune to see them perform live each of the last 3 years. Amazing musicians. They are rock/progressive and the only way to compare them is maybe to take a bit of Rush (minus Geddy Lee's voice!) and mix in some Pink Floyd ~ though that doesn't completely fit. They are a rock band that mixes in synth/ambient soundscapes to create some hauntingly beautiful tracks - - some are mellow, some are hard rock, sometimes both in the same song. I would highly recommend any of their last 3 albums (In Absentia, Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet) and older albums (Signify, Stupid Dream) are good too. Going back to even early stuff is more Pink FLoyd-y trippy stuff which is still good but less song driven. Still some great tracks but test the waters first with their recent tracks to see if you enjoy.
