A fave Ditko Spidey page of mine. One of the many-copied Spidey Figures in Panel 2... Great Figure... even thought his head/mask is kinda crooked...
Gorgeous. I always wanted to Ink Dave. He's so good... Great Illustrator, Fantastic Designer...and he's an amazing Inker too.
Nice page. I hope the "Newer" (Young sipper-snapper) Pencilers are aware of how lucky they are to get master Karl to Ink thier work. : )
(Always wondered what a wipper-snapper was).
I Love these guys together. They remind me of Kirby inked by Don Heck. One of my fave Kirby Teams.
One of my fave Spider-Man teams. Mooney always did a nice job over John.
The top Left Panel (#1) looks odd to me. Is there art corrections on the face on the left? It doesn't look like John or Jim.
Darn... I think poor Rob passed away in April of last year (2025)... I am so sorry...
Soooo... any chance in getting a high-Rez of this without giving out my email?
Great Piece.
One of my biggest disappointments in Life was that I never got a chance to Ink the Master. I met him (and the VERY lovely Josie) at Comiccon. He was just walking by my table and stopped because he saw my Scott Shaw! and Stan Goldberg pages on my table. We chatted for quite a while (and he told me how he met Josie... sigh) and then he coyly asked me if I wanted to work with him on an "Adult" Project. I asked him if he was crazy, and that of course I did. He told me he knew that I was best buds with Terry Austin (I was at the time) and that Terry likely wasn't going to have time to Ink this project. He told me that he needed to check with Terry, but if Terry wasn't for sure gonna Ink it, I could.
Then, not long after that, poor Dan passed-away...
Um... I Inked this. Credit? Do you have a higher-rez scan?
I love Terry's work. But like a fool, I've never read any of it. Maybe I should start. : )
I REALLY need to say that Bernie Sachs was truly amazing. He was wonderful over Mike... but DC's Romance books are a real mystery. A lot of them have stories clearly inked by Bernie, but it's almost impossible to tell who the Pencilers are. There are stories where almost every panel on the page looks like it was penciled by a different artist. Wild stuff.
I've sat down with guys that are pretty knowledgeable about this period, Leialoha, Evanier, Mario Hernandez, and others, and it's really a trip.
Very cool< Thanx!
I really hated Mike's work when I was little... it looked like Kirby on Acid. Then in my second year working in comics, I Inked him on his and Mark Evanier's Radar... and it was tough. A lot of sketchy "Dirty Sock" Soft-Lead kinda pencils. But I sure learned a lot and REALLY started appreciating his crazy stuff.
So nice. And speaking of "clouds," I have a Joe Army page, Twice-Up, with the most amazing Tree right in the center. I'll see if I can scan it and put it up. I don't have PhotoShop any more, so I'll need to figure out how to "Join" the segments.
Nice!!! Chic was mana from heaven when I was 10 or so. There were so many mediocre Inkers on the King at that time and Chic saved us all!!!
I love Inking "Debris!"
Hey Mark. Do you have a nice scan of this? My scan is awful.
I'm never quite sure who did some of the Flagg stuff. Williamson gets a lot of credit, but this looks more like McWilliams had a hand... maybe both.
Nice piece! John is NOT the earsied person to Ink. I have some experience. It's hard to figure out what he "means" sometimes. In fact, sometimes he scribbles-in some ren dering going in 4 or 5 different direction at the same time, and if you do that with Ink, it becomes a black area with no shape.
Terry is still my fave over John, but Dick's work here is damn dazzling<
Wait, What, huh? I wasn't hallooin', was I? (It wasn't there... was it(???)
I remember Scott used to say that... and I've always really appreciated his appreciation... but lately he's been really mad at me for reason(s) I don't understand. Something I said that he percieved as an insult. It wasn't at all.
What? No lead credit??? I'm mortified.
I think this was my first Inks over Scott... a little stiff in places, but not too bad.
Cool. I dig seeing stuff that I worked on that I barely remember working on.
Cool and Interesting. Nice to see Adam stretching-out a bit. it's almost Adam by way of Mœbius.
Ouch< My childhood all in one picture...
My pleasure. I remember helping Steve fill-in Blacks on some of this stuff, and the first thing we tried was Laundrey Markers... and after both of us had been sitting on the floor and filling-in the blacks for a bit, we both suddenly got ill and had to go out on the Front Lawn to breath... then after we recovered I tried Steve's brand-newly purchased Windsor-Newton Series 7 #2 and some India Inlk... and voila... Nice Solid Black Areas that didn't make us sick.
This is one of Steve's first Professional Inking Assignments (He had inked Jahna the Space Viking By by Marv Wolfman for Mimeograph before this).
I had sold most of my comics some years before Steve got this gig, mostly to pay for taking-out girls on dates, and this was my introduction to comics that were not much like the ones I read when I was 10. Spider-Man #3 was pretty awesome, but this was almost sorta "Adult..." and really clever. I remember being over at Steve's house reading the pages as they came in for Steve to Ink. I dug it... I may have even filled-in some Blacks on this page or erased it.
: )
Hey Shemp! Any chance in getting a Higher-Rez scan of this? : )
I loked at a bunch from this issue and I can only be positive about a few pages... sigh. I had no idea that Karl and I could Ink so similarly. I wasn't trying to look like Karl... and I don't imagine he was trying to look like me.
Thanx so much... but I don't give out my email any more. Too many scams and sh!t. It there another way? Maybe post to a D/L site like Mega? Maybe on FaceBook?
Thanx. : ) I'm sure most Writers/Artist/etc have problems with their own work. I assume that's part of what makes a person need to grow.
This is on Bristol, right? It's not a stat? Because it looks so white, especially in contast to the Rubber Cement stains.
...and I know you didn't steal it, Miki! Congrats on a cool page and I REALLY appreciate your kindness.
