Henry Huie, now gone from us, was the largest collector of my work in his time... esp the Shadow Art... He was known and admired by many, and many artists are in his debt for his being such a staunch collector!
Thank You, Benno: in this case I certainly agree with you... the idea, once described to me by Glenn, "took off" and has yet to touch earth again!
It is very nice to see this art once again... of everything I've drawn in my career, this image is by far the most tattooed (followed closely by the cover art to Glenn Danzig's Black Aria) May I ask: Are you Henry's brother? I miss that guy!!!
Old hands at Comic Art Collecting will note the art was done on a piece of DC Comics' cover stock from The Good Old Days...
There'll be more and more as time and tide allows! Thanks! M
Hey: Powerful! Have you thought to have Michael draw you a Hellboy??? Congratulations. M
Hi there... just a note: the sketch isn't really Buck and Wilma, it is Galatia 9 and Brucilla the Muscle, from Starstruck... both space gals... Michael
Whew! I was trying to figure out how to say, "Ted, m'man, that's not, couldn't be, my original" when I scrolled down and saw you knew that... Acetate Overlay, eh? Good to see the image again... Michael
When I handed in the inked cover (as you see it here) the editor said "How will we know it is Sherlock Holmes" I agree with the comment posted above: don't need the hat. Still and all, the Editor said: draw the Deer Stalker and we'll paste it onto the art. I said "grrrrrrr", to myself, and sent a half-page on which I'd drawn 6 "hats"... a Straw Boater, a "Newsboy", probably a Top Hat, the Deerstalker and, forgetting the final hat (which MIGHT have been a Shadow Hat), I did draw a Sony Walkman set of Earphones. I put a pencilled indication of where Holmes' ear should be so whatever "hat" they'd choose, it'd rest on his head accurately... well, to my eye, they muffed that: it looks like The Batman just sort of bumped the back of the Deer Stalker and pushed it forward, in an almost comical position... Grrrrrr, again!
I think someone should give this Golden kid a job!!! Very powerful (an accurate) interpretation of The Shadow, Ted... congratulations!!!
