Exactly! And on top of that Robbins' very distinct lettering.
You're right, of course. But I also think it looks a little bit like something by Charles Burns. The inking again, I suppose.
You're absolutely right, Sir! It is like Hi & Lois updated for the 2020's.
Thank you! My experience is that one should always listen to the artist for a great outcome.
Yes, he is amazing. And fast! This one took a week from my inquiry until it was delivered from Italy ti Sweden.
Thank you! Unfortunately Oscar's comics are not published in english translation (yet) but stranger things have happened...
Thank You! Sword Princess Amaltea is published in the U.S. by Tokyo Pop. It is definitely worth checking out.
Very nice pinup, David. The pre-pussycats Josie comics represents some of Dan's most distinctive and brilliant work. Congratulations!
Thank you Hal! I wholeheartedly agree (and that's a reaction I get from other old-school Archie fans) with your opinion about Gisele's artwork. Gisele recently published a checklist of her Archie work on her facebook page. But you should also take a look at her webcomics Ménage à 3 (Rated R/NSFW,) Eerie Cuties, Magick Chicks, and Sticky Dilly Buns (some of them with guest artists like Dan Parent and Fernando Ruiz).
Thanks Alex! You can sample some strips at http://lundagard.se/tag/tjejerna-pa-hojden/ which will give you the general idea how it looks. But of course in swedish (that is the drawback of cartooning in a small language). It has been translated to norwegian though...
You're welcome! I think only a handful of artists are capable of doing miss Spellman the right way, but Gisele is definitely one of them.
Thank you! You assume completely righ. "Doda dom" means "kill them" in swedish. "Halge" is probably one of the most successful comic strips in Sweden (not that there are too many of them to begin with). You can enjoy a sampling of strips translated into english here: http://www.bullspress.com/produkter-tjanster/produkter-tjanster/halge/ (Look for the slideshow under the introduction but above the alcoholic beverages.)
Thanks! Probably one of the best late Robbins Hazard Sundays I have seen for sale. It really "spoke" to me.
Thank you! Peter Gross is an artist which I don't think has got the recognition he deserves (yet).
Thank you! Yes, I think Jeff improved on the original image quite a lot.
Thank you, Alex! Yes, picknickers should beware of The Jugheaded Goblin!
Thank you, David! (Likewise on your Art Adams page from Comic-con.)
Yes, it is very hard to improve on somthing by DeCarlo, but Terry was able to do it.
Thank you! Can I quote your comment on Tery's blog? I think it describes the drawing very accurate and on the spot in one sentence.
Thank you! Terry makes great convention sketches!
Thank you! It is very amusing to figure out these commissions and then see the outstanding outcome when Jeff gets on the job.
Thanks. So do I, obviously. :-)
Thank you! I believe that this is what the expression "no holds barred" was invented to describe...
Thank you! Rick O'Shay and Stan Lynde are household names over here, thanks to the fact that both that strip and his later effort Latigo ran as backups in the swedish Phantom bi-weekly comic book. Mr. Lynde visited one of our conventions in the early nineties when I had the privilege of meeting him. No OA by him in my collection though (yet), but from what I understand there is a shortage due to some sort of domestic catastrophe...? Quite an impressive selection you have there! I have followed Mr. Barreto's work since he took over Atari Force from José Luis Garcia-Lopez and he was always on my list of artists I picked up, regardless of what they were doing.
Thank you! Sometimes all the pieces comes together beautifully (with the right artist, of course).
Thank you! It was fun figuring out all the details and see them being carried out IRL.
Thanks! I didn't realize how lucky I was until after the sale was finished. Good to hear that Thom will be do more "real" OA.
Thank you! Bill outdid himself on this one, I think.
