John doing his favorite character at the peak of his career inking his own work. You're not going to get better than that. Congrats!
That's a great page! Those issues that Buscema worked on with Romita/Mooney were an amazing time in that book's history. Congrats on the page!
That's a great page! Very evocative of Luke's world.
A really, really nice page from late in John's career. Can't get better pencils and inks than that.
What a beautiful page, one I've always wanted. I feel your pain. I sold a couple of Buscema/Alcala pages I wish I'd just kept.
Romita drawn and Romita inked. You can't go much better than that. Romita was definitely one of the better artists at Marvel - he had a lot of realism in his work, and enough of the comic book to make it perfect for the medium. John could draw Black people very well, with the look of some of the characters from the Black action films of the time. Second best at drawing attractive women behind John Buscema. And a hell of an art director as well.
Great page. That middle panel alone is worth it.
That's a great page from the end of one of my favorite Galactus sagas. I'm sure it's a prize in your collection.
Love the bit of backstory on that. Love Hooks, McGinnis, that whole style of art.
This is great, Bob! One of 2 Conan covers by John I remember you inking.
That is sick! What a great pickup!
Absolutely stunning.
Wow. Not much more needs to be said. Gil very much loved the character and, well, just wow.
Interesting, many years ago the creator of this title was trying to raise funding to make this into a film. This was some time during the 80's.
I'm supposed to say something eloquent, I know. I'm a writer. So, here goes; wow!
These are great! Sutton was actually a great choice as an inker for Kane on this. That whole sequence is amazing.
Love your (accurate) description! And that's a great page. John stepped in last minute when the previous artist was falling behind schedule on the book and knocked it out of the park. That was a terrific storyline - how to really do an epic Avengers tale - and sported some of the best artistic work of all involved, from Sal at the beginning up to his brother at the end. If comics looked and read as good now I'd probably still be reading them. And how could anyone go wrong under Tom Palmer's inks?
That is great! Terrific story. Glad you got a page from your first comic. There is something special to getting pages from either your first or favorite comic. Happy you were able to achieve that goal!
That's a terrific page. Very much what made Maroto so respected. If you could only have one Maroto page I don't think you could do better than that.
Hmmmmm. Wouldn't doubt it was the same guy. Like I said, he hit a few more people before he fled from eBay. You run into it once and awhile - luckily people like that are very rare. Still, it will sting a bit here and there. Was it eBay you encountered him through?
California, if I remember correctly. Don't remember the exact city, but it was outside of LA.
He did post a B&W scan of the original art. He'd sold several pages over the years on eBay, but his last few deals he seems to have conned everyone before finally voluntarily getting off the site.
Amazing page. I think we're all jealous of you.
Yeah, the atmosphere. Just amazing how Gene really gave this series the feel of an old 40's movie adaptation of Dracula. Just amazing work.
Amazing page. I think we're all jealous of you.
I owned the page many years ago and can attest to the quality of detailed work provided by Chan's beautiful inking, and John's wonderful layout. Conan belonged to John, plain and simple.
Almost bit my tongue looking at this. You don't need any other Silver Surfer pages. That's as representative a page as you could ever need.
I'm so jealous, Lee! I'm going to stop banging my head against the wall now. Great page!
Oh, that's a really nice page. I saw the page at a convention years ago for sale. Wish I'd gotten it. Great capture!
What a terrific page by Gene (are there any that aren't?). Congrats, Erik.
Very nice, Lee. This is the DD that I love, and the only Widow that I know. Terrific art by 2 artists at their collaborative best.
A wonderful page. I saw it up close a couple of years ago - I believe Albert Moy had it - and like a dummy I didn't buy it. Great page!
Very nice page. Maroto was so good at drawing women - he rivaled Gonzalez. Terrific page. I'm jealous.
I'm not going to even try and say anything clever. This is just a great page. Neal did some of his best work on the Avengers. That sequence is one I so remember and love. Terrific piece for your collection.
Beautiful. Gonzalez really deserves so much more attention than he gets. I saw this page up close when I was buying the Gonzalez I have, and really admired the detail he put into the work. That's a great pickup.
