Kukalis, Romas

Romas is an award-winning artist known for specializing in fantasy and science-fiction subjects. An alum of the Paier College of Art, Romas accepted his first professional commission within three weeks of graduation. Hundreds of book covers and commercial illustrations followed. He is especially known for painting the covers of the Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover books, Anne McCaffrey's Rowan series, and K. A. Applegate's Animorphs Chronicles. Expanding beyond book covers, Romas has created and executed original designs for product development units of Hasbro Toys, the Bradford Exchange and the Franklin Mint. He has contributed to numerous role-playing games, including cards for Magic: The Gathering, as well as computer game and audio package art for Universal Studio’s Harry Potter style guide. Romas is currently bringing his love of illustration to his interest in fine art, combining elements of both: telling a story utilizing classic techniques - oil on canvas, brushes, and time-honored skill. His “Cinderella Stayed” was a finalist in the Greenwich Workshop Small Works competition and became a popular giclee print. In 2024 he won 2nd place at the Acrylic Biennial International Exhibition at the Kenosha Public Museum Kenosha, WI and 3rd place in the A Flair For Vibrance at the COCO Art Gallery Naples, FL.
